Horsegram dhal/kollu/ulavalu/hurali - 1 cup
Onion - 1 chopped fine
Green chillies - 4 chopped fine
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
Channa dhal - 1/2 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
Coconut grated - 2 tbsp
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece crushed
Salt as needed
Oil - 1 tbsp
Wash and soak horse gram over night... next day add water enough for immersing them and cook in a pressure cooker/pan for 3 - 4 whistles... remove and cool... drain water completely ( can use the water for rasam/gravies)... allow to cool and dry lightly... pound in coarsely with a masher/ladle lightly so it gets mashed up little bit.
Heat oil in a frying pan/kadai and add mustard sees, urad dhal, cumin seeds and curry leaves... when they splutter up, add chopped onions, chopped green chillies and crushed ginger... fry till onions are light brown... now add the lightly mashed horse gram and salt... mix well... add grated coconut and some chopped coriander leaves and mix... can serve this as a snack/sundal or also as a side dish with rice/chapathis.
