Black Eye Bean(Cow Peas)/ Alasandhalu/ Karamani/Alasandhe Rice
Rice - 1 cup( sona masoori)
Black eye bean/cow peas(karamani) - 3/4 cup soaked
Onion - 1 chopped fine
Tomato - 2 chopped fine
Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
Bisi bele bath powder - 2 - 3 tsp( can substitute with sambar powder)
Asafoetida/hing - a pinh
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1 tbsp
Coconut greated - 2 tbsp
Curry Leaves - few
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt as needed
Bisi Bele Bath powder already containes coconut, so can skip adding grated coconut, but I have added and it tasted good.
Soak black eye peas overnight or at least for 4 hours...wash and keep rice seperately.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker/pan and add cumin seeds...when they pop up add chopped onions and curry leaves, fry till golden brown...next add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute... then add chopped tomatoes... fry till they are mashed and pulpy... now add rice and drained black eye peas...water around 4 - 4 1/2 cups , also add turmeric powder, bisi bele bath powder, grated coconut and salt... cover and cook for 2 - 3 whistles.
