0 MANGO PACHADI

Mango Pachadi/maamidikaaya pachadi/manga thokku.

Mango pachadi is one of my grandmas's signature dish. This pachadi cannot be called as chutney, but in some way similar to that. It goes best with rice. This is the way they do in my house hot n sweet n sour mango pachadi.

Raw mango - 1
Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
Green chillies - 2 or 3 slit long
Onion - 2 tbsp chopped fine ( optional use)
Jaggery - 3 tbsp ( can add more if you like more sweetness)
Mustard seeds - very little
Urad dhal - very little
Curry leaves - a sprig
Hing - a pinch
Salt as needed
Oil - 1 tbsp

variation: Can add 1 or 2 tbsp of grated coconut at the end.

My grandma usually removes/scrapes the skin of the mango and cuts it into thick pieces. Put this in a vessel along with chilli powder and water just enough for immersing and cook till mango's are soft...add salt jaggery and lightly mash.
Heat oil in a kadai and add mustard seeds, urad dhal, hing, curry leaves , green chillies and onion...fry till onions are light brown and pour it on the cooked mango. She always uses a small quantity of onion, using onion is optional, but we all like the taste of it. This pachadi goes with rice and any type of curries with it.
