This chutney is one of the simplest and easiest chutney and mostly commonly prepared in most of our houses. It goes well with idli/dosas/ven pongal and ofcourse bonda/bhajji.

Coconut grated - 1 cup
Dalia split or pottu kadalai - 1/4 cup
( can also substitute with roasted peanuts)
Green chillies - 5( can also use red chillies)
Garlic - 2 flakes( optional)
Ginger - 1 inch piece( optional)
Tamarind - 1 inch piece
Salt as needed

Grind the ingredients in a mixer with little water to a paste. Can grind coarsely or fine. Both tastes good.
It is an optional choice to temper.

For tempering:
Mustard seeds, urad dhal and curry leaves - all few.
Temper all the above in a small kadai using a tsp of oil and pour it on the chutney. Can also temper with vadagams. They taste great. SOmetimes my tempers the chutney with mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry leaves and some chopped small onions. Fry till light brown and pour it on the chutney. The small onions taste great when mixed in the chutney .
