32 Response from the Editor( Mangayar Malar )

Two days back had posted copyright violation by Mangayar Malar here . Also sent a mail to the editor informing them about the issue by misusing my picture in their magazine without my notice and permission. Today within 2 days got a reply from the editor. You can see their reply below.

Felt relieved to get a positive response and appreciate their prompt reply.
Wishing these things will be avoided in future.

Dear madam,

Received your letter, regarding the use of the ‘sundal’ picture from
your blog in mangayar malar sept-2010 edition. At the very outset,
we apologise for what has happened. We have conducted internal
enquiry on this issue, with the editorial team and have warned
them against such further repeated acts. I, as the executive editor,
take total responsibility for this Inadvertant mistake, and request
you to excuse us for this unintentional act.

We shall be very careful in future and take every step to avoid such
errors.

Anuradha Sekar
Executive Editor
Mangayar malar.

Decent of the Editor.Actually i was thinking of initiating a chain email or some form of group protest against the magazine. From a different perspective,it is quite impossible for the editor to check if each article submitted to them has been 'lifted' or is original. Now,I think you oculd insist that the author of the article should issue a public apology as well as apologise to you.
What do you say?

good to hear this apology I found in another site my picture was published but they didn't ask and it is upsetting when you do a lot of work and they take the fun out of it.

A relief to know this dear. we are spending our energy, creativity, time and money (camera, human billable hours, electricity), but some one like this simply gets the benefits. They should have paid for using your effort.

That is really kind of you Rajani and also a good idea.
I agree with you, the author should give a public apology. Looks like she has copied pictures from many different blogs and the credit goes to her and her pic too being published in the magazine. Atleast hope that these things will not be repeated and the editorial team are alert in future.

Padma said...

Nice idea Priya...will do that.

Too bad torviewtoronto... hope things clear out soon for you. Let me know if you need any support.

Cilantro - try to see if you can get a copy of that edition and publish it in your blog and send the link to the editor. Hope they can ask the author for an apology and do not repeat this in future.

Jayasree - of course I have seen that picture in the same magazine- same edition... and I have posted that picture too with the author on top in my post against copyright violation by a Tamil Magazine. Did not realise that it was yours... too bad of the author... hope they give you an apology soon. Or let me know if we all can join together and do something.
